The daily blog of October 18
It the time of darkness, 11:00 pm (GMT +5:30 )the time of writing something which increase my writing skills. What if I could become a writer.
I feel like a writer today. don't like
Any old writer, but like me. i have
So much to say. Often, it's all caught up
At the same time in my throat and I choke. In that
Sometimes I don't feel like myself. i don't
Sounds like a writer. But today is different.
I flow like a stream,
Thoughts are so fluid that they
Slides easily, slides down my throat
Making room for each other in
The flow is no longer blocked, but a
A waterfall of consciousness, frictionless
And Transcend can be easily recorded
Pen and paper. without friction. Today
I am a frictionless mental sky. i have
Say now is the time. i am
Ready to switch. I am ready to make.
Today is my every day. And so it is.
A lot of things
Like many other jobs, there really isn't a routine. I might be in the middle of a draft, completely engrossed in writing, with little idea what hour it is. I am acutely aware of how much time has passed without writing a single word. I may be revising. I might be doing multiple projects. I'm probably tearing my hair out because I don't have any projects. Who knew?! I certainly don't. I can barely plan my year — more than once, I've agreed to do a conference or speaking gig without realizing that it's on a tight deadline, and that's always a recipe for disaster… a disaster that is the life I want to live.
In my dreams, before I was published, before I wrote, I thought the writer's day was luxurious. Wake up at the right time. Coffee with a book while the sunlight plays on the breakfast table. I typed out the words on an old typewriter with another cup of coffee beside me.
The reality is very different.
You know, I'm very blessed, as far as professional writers are concerned.I enjoy what I do. Most professional writers have to do this and hold down a full-time job, however I have to do it soon. (Even for many bestsellers I know, being a professional writer often doesn't pay well!)
But as you can see, it's far from the glamorous workday everyone imagines:
I spend more time in interacting with people: editors, readers & social media followers also colleagues. It's part of the job! No complaints in this quarter, but still, you can imagine how much energy it takes when you're introverted. Yet most extroverts don't have nearly as much time for personal conversation as they would like. He often gets stuck in some uncomfortable areas in the middle.
I spend more time editing than writing. That's the job in a nutshell: write, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite... I can't hold my words very tightly in the process. I often have to rearrange entire sections, sometimes sections that I personally like. Oh well anything to make a book good, that's the mantra!
I have to devote a lot of time to reading and reading to keep myself fresh, especially when it comes to technical writing. By this point, I know the Python documentation well. Professional writing is a trade-off for natural learners.
A professional writer is often more ambiguous than one might think. I get wonderful comments on occasion and I appreciate them! But the truth is that most people who read my work will never comment, and that's okay.
A professional writer has long days, especially when working under deadlines! Between writing new content, researching and editing existing content, ten-hour days aren't unheard of... and that's without a full-time job! I wake up early, just to keep my sanity.
All that said, I won't give it up. I have to write, or I will wither to death. It's just me. When I see someone enjoying or benefiting from something I've written, when I see a smile on someone's face at a book signing, when I read a nice comment on social media, it's just icing on the cake.
This area is not for the faint of heart. If you like short work days, predictable schedules, and plenty of time off, this may not be the job for you.
But if you're like me and love to write, it might be worth it.
