The daily blog of October 16

it's night time the darkness of 9:09pm(GMT+5:30) free from my busy schedule thinking about what to write.

In the childhood many of you had seen an IAS officer as chief guest on Republic day or Independence day, and many of you had inspired by him or many of you had listened from their parents or grandparents that an IAS officer is the king of the district, But in my case it's different i do not heard a single word about it upto my graduation,As a youngster when I had to decide my career that what I want to become then the word came into my mind is "IAS" and I got attracted towards this word and after researching I got attracted towards it as the post. It leads very decent and disciplined lifestyle. They play a very important role in the administrative part of society and are responsible for handling government affairs at many levels.since then it has been  two years i am preparing for it.My motivation line for this preparation is "not now then when, not you then who"

How is a day in the life of a UPSC aspirant?

This question is interesting in itself. There are many stories going on about the life of UPSC aspirants, especially the toppers. Please remember that the truth is often different. When someone says that a UPSC aspirant has to study for 16 hours a day to crack this exam or a candidate just looks at textbooks and reproduces facts to crack the exam, rest assured These statements are very wrong. No UPSC is ready, in fact no person can study continuously for 16 hours without getting tired. Also one cannot pass the exam just by reproducing the textbooks. Every candidate is prepared differently and hence, study hours may vary from person to person. But, there will be some similarities in the life of every UPSC aspirant. These are the qualities that make an aspirant a topper. The below image shows a Book which helped me lot to understand about the exam.

Current Affairs

A UPSC aspirant must read a newspaper every day, preferably The Hindu, as it is a good source of current affairs and editorials that enhance your understanding of various important topics. It is important to regularly read and write important points in the newspaper. This has to be supplemented by reading current affairs magazines. Daily reading will help you stay updated with current affairs and exams. Since current affairs play an important role in prelims, mains and interview, this simple step will make your preparation easy.Although this exam needs lot of hardwork with consistency

Prelims & Mains:-

Another activity that takes place in a candidate's life is the study of reference books. This will include NCERT, Laxmikant or any other standard reference textbooks that may be referred. At the beginning of the preparation, one should devote enough time to study and understand the topics and prepare for the questions that will be asked for both Prelims and Mains.

Since preparation of questions is an integral part of preparation, it should be noted that candidates should devote enough time to Preliminary and Mains questions. Hence, test the MCQ type questions and subjective questions through various mock tests available in the market. The time allotted for this may vary depending on your area of specialization as well as the proximity of the exam. For example, in the preliminary preparation phase you can give equal time to prelims and mains, but when you have only three to four months left for the exam, you can gradually give more importance to prelims. Similarly, once you clear the prelims, you should focus 100% on the mains exam to increase your chances of getting an interview call. So, practice writing daily to improve your chances. This time is October and it  is to just focus on the mains and optional.

Optional:-

Another area which is an integral part of the daily life of the candidates is their elective preparation. If you are a complete newbie, you can start your voluntary preparation after few months of preparation. Use this time to understand the basics of UPSC preparation as well as decide which option suits you best. Once the Voluntary Preparation starts, you can spend 30 to 40% of your time in your Voluntary Preparation. Once you start your "preliminary only" preparation (when the calendar says 3 to 4 months for prelims), you can gradually cut back to mains/optional exercises and fully into preliminary preparation mode can go. So I had decided to choose chemistry as an optional subject for this exam as I'm having basic understanding in this subject as well as interested in this subject.

Since each candidate has his/her own strengths and weaknesses, he/she should make a schedule that best suits him/her, whether it is subject wise preparation or pre-mains preparation. Also, as time passes, we should repeat what we have already learned daily. Regular revision is important to remember what you read for a long time. So, set aside some time in the day for revision.

Stress Buster

Since mental fatigue can adversely affect preparation, please create a schedule that allows time for rest and rejuvenation. Make sure to study at least 6 to 8 hours a day in the initial phase and you can increase the time to around 12 hours. The body of the examinees needs adequate rest as it takes months or years to prepare for the exam. So, 6 to 8 hours of sound sleep is essential, and moderate exercise/meditation is essential to keep your mind fresh. Balanced diet is also advised for a healthy life. I use my hobbies as a stress buster, my hobbies are cooking, playing chess, hacking the legal websites, reading Bhagwat gita shloka and now maintaining blog website. If there is Courage in life, patience And if there is honesty No one will end your existence.
